सुरक्षा निकायमा कार्यरत महिलाको संख्या करिब १० हजार पुगेको छ । नयाँ पत्रिका दैनिकमा समाचार छ। सबैभन्दा धेरै नेपाल प्रहरीमा महिलाको सहभागिता छ । 

७२ हजार ७ सय १९ दरबन्दी रहेको नेपाल प्रहरीमा दुई डिआइजीसहित चार हजार चार सय ७१ जना महिला कार्यरत रहका छन् । जसमध्ये चार हजार चार सय दरबन्दी रिक्त रहेका छन् ।

पछिल्लो समय नेपाल प्रहरीमा महिलाको सहभागिता बढ्दै गएको छ । डिआइजी पदबाट अवकाश पाएकी विमला थापा आफूहरु भर्ना हुने समयमा महिलाहरु सुरक्षा निकायमा भर्ना हुने चलन नै नभएको बताउँछिन् ।

करिब ९० हजार फैज रहेको नेपाली सनेनामा तीन हजार तीन सय आठजना महिला कार्यरत छन् । सेनामा माथिल्लो तहमा धथोरै मात्र महिला छन् । सेनामा मात्र महिला एक सहायक रथी छिन् ।

सशस्त्र प्रहरी बलमा १८ सय १९ जना महिला कार्यरत छन् । सशस्त्रमा एक एसपी, पाँच डिएसपी, ३७ इन्सपेक्टर, ३७ सइ, १५ असइ, एक वरिष्ठ हवल्दार रहेका छन् ।

The government has introduced a new Nepal Army (NA) regulation that will bar women soldiers from combat duties. The women soldiers will not be allowed to take up direct combat responsibilities. Military analysts have said that women will never get the opportunity to be the chief of the Nepal Army due to such regulations.

The new rule comes at a time when many Western countries are removing the ban on women soldiers from taking up combat duties. The US military had earlier lifted the 1994 ban that prevented women soldiers from combat roles. The US military will now allow women soldiers to fight in the frontlines.

The new NA regulations will prevent women soldiers from serving in the infantry, special forces , artillery and air defense. Germany, Australia and Canada have already introduced provisions allowing women soldiers to take up direct combat roles. NA began recruiting women in 1962 but mostly for medical units. Currently, 1,712 women serve in the 93,000-strong Nepal Army.
